My path into doulahood

My path into Doulahood began when I discovered my passion for all things pregnancy, birth, and postpartum during my journey with my first baby.

When I began learning about natural/unmedicated birth, what resonated with me were the stories of INSPIRATION, POWER, FEARLESSNESS, LOVE, TRANSFORMATION, and SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES.

These stories inspired me and resulted in my desire to have a magical birth experience of my own.

My two midwifes, birth doula, and postpartum doula were absolutely invaluable and key to my positive birth and postpartum experience. They prepared me, shared invaluable wisdom and knowledge with me, and supported me. They made this new time feel exciting — like the most special adventure of my life — and it absolutely was!

Through my experience, I learned that birth work is undervalued in our society. I learned that many people do not have the support needed to properly prepare for and experience birth and postpartum. As a result, both mom and baby often experience the consequences of birth trauma as well as physical and emotional health issues.

If more women had the support they truly need and deserve — which often times requires more than just a “good” doctor and hospital — there would be less birth trauma and more magical and empowering birth experiences.

Whether or not you are at home, the hospital, a birth center, or … in the woods. You deserve to be prepared, educated, supported, advocated for, and respected during one of the most important times of your life.

Ultimately, my experience led me to become a Certified Birth Doula so that I may help future mamas through their own positive birth experiences.

xx, Sonya
